Along the eastern edge of Kolkata lies one of the rarest ecosystems on earth: a vast, breathing mosaic of fishponds, paddy and marsh that quietly cleans the wastewater of an entire metropolis and turns it into life.
Recognised as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, the East Kolkata Wetlands are the largest organised resource-recovery system of their kind anywhere in the world — a place where nature and human labour have woven themselves together over generations. Here, sunlight, water and the daily work of fisherfolk transform what a city discards into fish, vegetables and clean water.
The Jhagrasisha Bhery at Kulipara, where our programme is held, is a living symbol of this coexistence — its waters cradle birds, fish and plant life, buffer the city against floods, and sustain the families who have tended them for generations. Our site sits at the very heart of this sacred landscape.

রামসার আন্তর্জাতিক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জলাভূমি হিসেবে স্বীকৃত ইস্ট কলকাতা ওয়েটল্যান্ডস তার ধরনের বৃহত্তম সংগঠিত সম্পদ-পুনরুদ্ধার ব্যবস্থা — যেখানে প্রকৃতি ও মানুষের শ্রম প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম ধরে একসূত্রে গাঁথা। এখানে সূর্যালোক, জল ও জেলেদের নিত্যকর্ম শহরের ফেলে দেওয়া বর্জ্যকে মাছ, সবজি ও পরিষ্কার জলে রূপান্তরিত করে।
কুলিপাড়ার ঝাগরাশিষা বেরি, যেখানে আমাদের কর্মসূচি অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে, এই সহাবস্থানের এক জীবন্ত প্রতীক — এর জল পাখি, মাছ ও উদ্ভিদকে লালন করে, শহরকে বন্যা থেকে রক্ষা করে এবং প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম ধরে যত্ন নেওয়া পরিবারগুলির জীবিকা টিকিয়ে রাখে।
For many years, KarmYog has worked quietly — under the radar — alongside the people of these wetlands: the fishing communities, the tribes, the societies whose lives are bound to this water and this land.
The KarmYog for 21st Century Foundation holds together a meeting point few attempt: where nature, technology, AI and science are brought into the service of a single living idea — that nature and communities are not rivals for the same ground, but partners who can prosper together.
We do not arrive as outsiders with answers. We have walked with the tribes and the samitis of these wetlands for years, listening first, building slowly, and rooting every initiative in the dignity and livelihood of the people whose hands have kept this ecosystem alive. Prakriti Jagaran — the awakening of nature — is also the awakening of community.
বহু বছর ধরে কর্মযোগ নীরবে — প্রচারের আড়ালে — এই জলাভূমির মানুষের পাশে কাজ করে এসেছে: জেলে সম্প্রদায়, আদিবাসী ও সমাজ, যাদের জীবন এই জল ও এই মাটির সঙ্গে বাঁধা।
কর্মযোগ ফর টোয়েন্টিফার্স্ট সেঞ্চুরি ফাউন্ডেশন এমন এক মিলনস্থল ধরে রাখে যা খুব কম মানুষই করতে সাহস করে: যেখানে প্রকৃতি, প্রযুক্তি, এআই ও বিজ্ঞান একটিমাত্র জীবন্ত ধারণার সেবায় নিয়োজিত হয় — প্রকৃতি ও জনগোষ্ঠী একই ভূমির প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বী নয়, বরং সহযাত্রী, যারা একসাথে সমৃদ্ধ হতে পারে।
আমরা উত্তর হাতে নিয়ে বহিরাগত হিসেবে আসি না। বছরের পর বছর আমরা এই জলাভূমির আদিবাসী ও সমিতিগুলির সঙ্গে হেঁটেছি — আগে শুনেছি, ধীরে গড়েছি, এবং প্রতিটি উদ্যোগকে সেই মানুষদের মর্যাদা ও জীবিকায় প্রোথিত করেছি যাদের হাত এই বাস্তুতন্ত্রকে জীবিত রেখেছে। প্রকৃতি জাগরণ — প্রকৃতির জাগরণ — একইসঙ্গে জনগোষ্ঠীরও জাগরণ।
